Immersive, augmented reality, 3-D video. The world’s top news outlets are experimenting with immersive journalism that takes people inside the facts, sometimes as pleasing as an Olympic competition, other times as dramatic as a war. Emblematic is the case of Dubai-based startup blinx.com, which is chronicling the October 7, 2023 Hamas attack-against Israeli civilians-in the form of a video game. But is this immersive journalism really a solution that respects the truth and the protagonists of the events? Nonni de la Peña, a U.S.-based journalist and entrepreneur, assures that it is precisely this journalism that can attract people again, today fleeing from traditional forms of information (even in Italy, certifies the AgCom guarantor). So here is our journey into immersive journalism that begins, somewhat surprisingly, in Naples. With a British influencer’s desperate attempt to find, in the city, pizza with pineapple.
